The tie Bond wears for much of the Hamburg section of Tomorrow Never Dies is easy to overlook, and that is its virtue. Squares in navy, brown and sky blue sit against a dark grey suit without competing with it. The Turnbull & Asser Tomorrow Never Dies square silk tie is the maker’s recreation of that tie, built from its archive.
In the film
It is the first of the Turnbull & Asser ties in Tomorrow Never Dies. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond wears it with the dark grey Brioni suit in Hamburg: breaking into Carver’s office, driving to the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski, dealing with Dr Kaufman and escaping in the remote-controlled BMW 750. Turnbull & Asser says it recreated the design from the original concentric diamond patterns preserved in the Bond and Turnbull archives.
The details
100% silk. The silk is woven in Italy, and the tie is hand-sewn in Gloucester by the maker’s own team.
A hidden loop. The blade carries a concealed loop of bonded thread, which lets the tie ruche and then relax back into place after wearing. The tipping is made of acetate, which is meant to cope with abrasion from belts or zips.
9.5cm wide. That is a sensible blade width: wide enough for a full knot, narrow enough to sit properly with a modern collar.
The colours. Our catalogue describes navy, brown and sky blue squares in a jacquard weave. Brown is the unusual note, and it is what makes the tie look worn-in rather than corporate.
Wearing it now
This tie belongs with a dark grey or navy suit and a white or pale blue shirt. The brown gives it warmth, so we would wear it with brown or dark brown shoes rather than black. Keep the shirt plain: a pattern on the shirt will fight a geometric tie.
Care. Specialist dry clean only. Do not machine wash, bleach or tumble dry. Hang it up after wearing so the loop can do its work.
Availability. Turnbull & Asser sells it in its Bond collection, at US$415 or £250 on its US and UK sites at the time of writing in October 2026, though a store page for it showed it as out of stock in the maker’s shops. Check the maker’s page for current stock.
