Some Bond machines are there to be seen. The helicopter in Spectre is there to watch. The Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin N2 in the film is a medium twin-engine machine with a shrouded tail rotor, and its job is to carry Blofeld above London while the old MI6 building comes down. For anyone curious about the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin N2 from Spectre, the useful part is that this is a real, working type, and the film airframe has a name: G-LCPL.

In the film

In Spectre (2015), Franz Oberhauser, played by Christoph Waltz, watches the MI6 building collapse from the Dauphin and flies away. It later chases the speedboat carrying Daniel Craig’s Bond and Madeleine Swann along the Thames, until Bond shoots it down and it crashes on Westminster Bridge. Our catalogue identifies the aircraft as UK-registered G-LCPL, and our Spectre page has the wider story.

The details of the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin N2

The enclosed tail rotor. The Dauphin is known for its Fenestron, a tail rotor set inside a shroud in the fin. It protects people on the ground and suits confined landing sites, which is why it matters on a helicopter that works in cities.

A twin-engine medium helicopter. The AS365 began life as the Aérospatiale SA 365 Dauphin 2 and has been in production in various forms for decades. It is used by coastguards, air ambulance services, offshore operators and corporate charter alike, and more than 1,000 have been built.

Built for instruments. Many N2 and N3 Dauphins are equipped for flight by instruments and at night, with weather radar and an autopilot. That matters more to a pilot than to a passenger, but it explains why the type is trusted for serious work.

Where the N2 sits. The N2 is the version seen in the film. The later N3 was developed for hot and high operations, with new engines and a redesigned ten-blade Fenestron, and deliveries began in December 1998.

Owning it now

We would not pretend that this is a purchase in the ordinary sense. The film helicopter is a single airframe, and we have found no listing for it. The type is another matter: Dauphins are flown and traded worldwide, and our button runs an eBay search on the model name, where listings, scale models and manuals for the type appear. Treat anything described as the film aircraft with suspicion unless it carries the G-LCPL registration and a documented history.

Charter rather than buy. The Dauphin family is a staple of private helicopter charter, with VIP cabins seating up to seven passengers and cruising at around 269km/h. One charter guide puts hourly rates for the later N3 at roughly US$3,000 to US$3,500 per flight hour at the time of writing, October 2026. For a Thames-side transfer or a coastal hop, that is the realistic way to experience one.

If you do want to buy. The history of an airframe matters far more than its livery. Ask for the full maintenance record before anything else.

Where it belongs in a considered life. A helicopter is about time: the hour saved over a bad road, the view of a city from above. That is the idea we would take from the film, rather than the villain.
