Bond is the absence at the centre of A Spy Like Me. Kim Sherwood’s second book in the Double O trilogy opens with him gone and MI6 unwilling to spend more lives looking. Anyone searching for Kim Sherwood’s A Spy Like Me will find a spy novel that moves the series forward without needing the hero to carry every page.
In the books
This is a continuation novel, written under the Ian Fleming estate’s commission, and the second of three Double O books. Bond left a clue at the black site where a private military company held him. Johanna Harwood, 003, sets out alone to follow it. Meanwhile a bomb in London sends Joseph Dryden, 004, and Conrad Harthrop-Vane, 000, after the money behind the attack: from Sotheby’s to Crete to Venice, through diamonds, black-market antiquities and human trafficking, with a six-day countdown running. See also the Bonds who have carried the character on screen.
Owning it now
It is in print as a 384-page hardback, first published in April 2024. We would read it after the first Double O book, since it picks up the thread of Bond’s disappearance directly. As a gift it works for someone who likes a modern spy novel with an ensemble cast. More titles sit in Books & Media.
