The Cumbria Crystal Helvellyn tumbler, a double old fashioned, is a plain, well-proportioned glass for whisky, and the one that sits on Pierce Brosnan’s Bond’s desk in Die Another Day. It holds 12oz (350ml), it is still made, and it is a better buy than most glassware sold with a film attached.
In the film
The tumbler is on Bond’s desk at the start of the virtual reality training scene, beside a decanter, while he cleans his Walther P99. It is a background object rather than a prop anyone handles, and it has been identified from the film by enthusiasts, so we treat it as a close match rather than a certainty.
Using it now
Helvellyn is one of Cumbria Crystal’s traditional collections, with a pattern of flutes and olives designed by Lady Grania Cavendish in 1976. The maker says it is favoured for formal dining by most British embassies, consulates and residences. That suits the glass: it is traditional without being fussy, and it works on a desk or a dining table.
It stands 9.5cm high and 8.5cm across, and holds 350ml, which is enough for a generous measure with ice or a mixer. We would pour a single malt over one large cube. The glass comes in a branded presentation box, which makes it an easy gift, and the maker says its glasses are handcrafted, many made to order, so allow for a wait.
Cumbria Crystal’s US store lists it at US$165 (RRP at the time of writing, October 2026). For a related glass from the same maker, see the Grasmere double old fashioned. More drinks and bar items are in food and drink, and the rest of the film is on the Die Another Day page.
