The Duralex Picardie tumbler is a plain French café glass, inexpensive and tough. Daniel Craig’s Bond drinks from one in Skyfall during the scorpion game in the beach bar, and the next morning he pours Macallan into a similar glass. The one on screen looks closest to the 31cl size, which is a judgement rather than a confirmed specification, and it is the size we would look for.
Using the Duralex Picardie tumbler now
Treat it as the everyday glass it is. We would pour a single malt into it with a little water, or simply fill it from the tap at the table; either way it asks nothing of you. Duralex says its tempered glass is 2.5 times stronger than ordinary glass, and the tumbler is safe in the dishwasher, microwave and freezer.
Duralex makes the Picardie in several capacities and colours. We would choose the clear glass in the 31cl (10.375oz) size, and buy six, since that is how it is sold. It is made in France, at the maker’s factory at La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin near Orléans. More for the table and the drinks tray is in our home interiors section.
