Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger is the Goldfinger Ian Fleming novel first published in 1959, the seventh in the Bond series and the book Anthony Horowitz chose as the starting point for Trigger Mortis. Horowitz calls it his favourite Bond novel.
In the books
The book opens with Bond in the Miami airport lounge, drinking double bourbons after a bad assignment. He is sent to look into Auric Goldfinger, the richest man in England, whose gold hoard has caught the attention of MI6. The plot builds to Operation Grand Slam and brings in Oddjob, who kills with a razor-edged bowler hat. The novel is told in three parts, each a separate meeting between the two men.
Owning it now
The 007 Store hardback, according to its listing, includes additional archival material and new cover art and end papers, which makes it a better shelf book than a pocket paperback. We would read it before the Horowitz sequel and keep it with the rest of our books and media. Fleming’s own publisher also lists it, with links to buy, and our films section shows where the story went on screen.
