The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

N.Peal 007 Crew Neck Sweater in Blue Wave (Skyfall)

A single-ply, round-neck jumper in 100% cashmere and a muted mid blue, worn by Daniel Craig’s Bond during the defence of Skyfall Lodge. N.Peal still sells it as part of its 007 collection, and it works under a waxed jacket or a shirt.

The sweater Bond wears for the stand at Skyfall Lodge is the plainest thing in his wardrobe, and the most useful: a round-neck jumper in a soft mid blue, thin enough to wear indoors and warm enough under a waxed jacket. The N.Peal 007 Crew Neck Sweater in Blue Wave is that jumper, and N.Peal still sells it as part of its 007 collection.

In the film

Daniel Craig’s Bond wears the Blue Wave sweater in the Scotland sequence of Skyfall (2012), under a Barbour jacket. It is on him through the defence of the lodge, including the shootout, the explosion and the scene at the lake. N.Peal describes it as the sweater Bond wears during the defence of his ancestral home. Our Skyfall page shows the rest of the Scotland outfit.

The details of the N.Peal 007 crew neck

Single-ply cashmere. It is knitted as a 1-ply round-neck jumper in 100% cashmere, which our catalogue records as Mongolian. One ply means a lighter, finer knit than the chunky jumpers common in country wear, so it sits comfortably under a shirt collar or a jacket.

A plain crew neck. There is no ribbing pattern, logo or contrast trim. It is the shape that goes under a jacket without bulk and shows at the neckline only as a clean band of colour.

Blue Wave. The colour is a muted mid blue. It works with navy, grey and tan and does not ask for anything bright beside it.

Code to look for. N.Peal lists it in its 007 collection, and a retailer reference we found gives the product code NPG-132JB.

Wearing it now

This is a jumper for the weekend in the country and for the office on a cold day. Over a white or pale blue shirt, with a tie loosened or no tie at all, it does the work of a sports jacket. We would wear it under a waxed or field jacket, with grey flannel trousers and brown boots, which is close to how Bond wears it. N.Peal itself suggests finishing the look with a brown herringbone scarf.

Cashmere care. Wash cool by hand or use a wool cycle, dry flat and keep it folded rather than hung.

Sizing. A single-ply knit is closer to the body than a heavier jumper. If you are between sizes, try both before you decide.

Where to buy. The US site ships to the United States only. Readers in the UK and EU are sent to N.Peal’s own UK and EU stores.
