SMEG Union Jack Toaster 2-Slice (No Time To Die)

A two-slice SMEG toaster in a Union Jack finish, seen among the SMEG appliances in Q’s house in No Time To Die. Six browning levels and defrost, reheat and bagel settings make it a working toaster first and a talking point second.

Ben Whishaw’s Q has several SMEG appliances in his house in No Time To Die, and among them is the Union Jack toaster: a rounded, 1950s-style two-slicer dressed in the flag. It appears alongside a SMEG fridge and a blender. The SMEG Union Jack toaster is hardly the film’s most serious object, but it may be the most usable.

Using the SMEG Union Jack toaster now

This is a toaster for a kitchen that is otherwise quiet. Pale worktops, oak, a little brass: one bright, patterned object sits well among them, and the flag is all the decoration it needs. We would not buy it for the film alone. We would buy it because it is a properly equipped toaster that happens to look good left out on the counter.

The slots are extra wide at 36mm, and the racks centre each slice automatically, so thick slices and bagels toast evenly. Six browning levels, plus defrost, reheat and a bagel setting that toasts one side only, cover most breakfasts. It also makes an easy gift for anyone who likes a kitchen with a point of view. More pieces for the house are in home and interiors.
