Not every accessory in the world of Daniel Craig’s Bond is a gadget or a watch. Some are simply good sunglasses. In promotional material for Spectre, Madeleine Swann wears a pair of Persol frames in Havana acetate with green lenses, identified as the Persol PO3092SM sunglasses. They are a small, rounded, handmade frame, and in our view one of the more wearable pieces of eyewear from Bond’s world.
In the film
Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine Swann wears the Persol sunglasses in official promotional photographs for Spectre. They have been linked to the Morocco sequence, but we have not confirmed the scene or the exact model on screen, so we describe them as shown in the film’s promotion and no more than that.
The details of the Persol PO3092SM sunglasses
Acetate, made in Italy. The frame is cut from acetate and handmade in Italy. The Havana pattern is warm and varied, which gives it more depth than flat black.
A petite fit. This version is size 50-19, with a 145mm temple. Persol describes the petite lens front as one for those who prefer to cover a smaller portion of the face. Lens width is 50mm and lens height 23mm, which keeps the shape neat rather than oversized.
Green lenses. The lenses are green, and they sit quietly against the Havana frame.
The arrow. Persol’s signature arrow sits on the temple. You can have up to three letters engraved on it for an extra US$15, which is a discreet way to make a pair your own.
Prescription ready. Persol sells the frame with prescription lenses, so it can serve as an everyday pair rather than a holiday one.
Wearing it now
These suit a man who wants sunglasses that look chosen rather than announced. Havana and green belong with linen shirts, stone chinos, an unstructured navy jacket and a leather watch strap. They are at their best in warm climates: a terrace in Lisbon, a drive along a coast road, a long lunch outdoors.
Who they fit. Persol lists 50-19 as best for most faces and sells this model in no other size. If you have a broad face, compare the measurements with the numbers engraved inside the temple of a pair you already own.
Which colour? We would choose the Havana with green lenses, which is the pairing shown in the promotional material. The Tabacco Virginia frame with brown gradient lenses is a warmer alternative, and the transparent grey with dark grey lenses is cooler and more modern.
