Daniel Craig’s Bond wears a run of dark suits in Spectre, among them a small check three-piece and a Windsor three-piece. The grey pinstripe is the exception: a working suit, cut close, in the kind of cloth a man could wear to a Monday meeting without anyone looking twice. The Tom Ford O’Connor grey pinstripe suit is, in our view, the one from that film you could most easily put to use.
In the film
Bond wears the suit in Spectre (2015) in London, in the scene where he meets Q and sees the Aston Martin DB10 for the first time. It is worn with black calf Crockett & Jones Norwich shoes, and it is in this suit that he receives the Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre Limited Edition from Q. Tom Ford dressed Bond for the film; see the full Spectre page for the rest of the wardrobe.
The details of the Tom Ford O’Connor grey pinstripe suit
The cut. The O’Connor is Tom Ford’s slimmer model. Retailers describe it with a narrow shoulder, a suppressed waist and fitted trousers, and we would check those points against the individual suit before buying. Nothing about it is theatrical, which suits the scene: a man being briefed, not a man making an entrance.
The pattern. Grey with a pinstripe is the most businesslike combination in tailoring. It reads as a plain, dark-ish grey from a distance, and the stripe gives the cloth structure without turning it into a statement. That is a useful quality in a suit you may wear more than once a week.
The styling. In the film the suit is worn with a white shirt, a dark grey tie and black calf shoes. Every element is quiet, and the result is a suit that does its work and leaves the watch on his wrist to be noticed.
Wearing it now
A grey pinstripe is among the most useful suits a man can own, and this is a good example of the type. Wear it as Bond does in the film: a white shirt, a dark grey tie and black calf shoes. It is a plain formula, and we would not change it for the office.
Off duty. A pinstripe jacket separated from its trousers can look odd, so we would keep the suit together for most occasions. Dress it down instead: a white shirt open at the neck, no tie, and the same black shoes kept well polished.
Coat. Bond is shown with it under a navy velvet-collar coat near Whitehall. A navy overcoat is the right partner for grey: it keeps the palette quiet and gives the pinstripe somewhere to sit.
Where to find one. The grey pinstripe O’Connor is out of production as far as we can find: Harrods and Mr Porter have sold O’Connor suits, but no longer list this one. It is found second-hand, and our button runs an eBay search for it. Check the measurements and the cloth carefully before you buy, and ask for photographs of the lining and the label. In the same spirit
These are alternatives, not the suit from Spectre. For the same Tom Ford O’Connor cut in a grey with a quiet pattern, look at the Tom Ford O’Connor Grey Prince of Wales Suit from our No Time To Die pages: a different suit, a check rather than a stripe, but the same slim, businesslike grey. The idea carries over to any well-cut grey two-piece worn plain.

Questions
Which suit does Bond wear when he meets Q in Spectre?
He wears a Tom Ford O’Connor grey pinstripe two-piece suit. It appears in London in the scene where he meets Q, sees the Aston Martin DB10 for the first time and receives the Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre Limited Edition.
What shoes does Bond wear with it?
Black calf Crockett & Jones Norwich shoes, with a white shirt and a dark grey tie. It is a conventional combination, which is much of its appeal.
Can you still buy the Tom Ford O’Connor grey pinstripe suit new?
Not new, as far as we can find. Harrods and Mr Porter no longer list the O’Connor in grey pinstripe, so look for a well-documented second-hand suit.
Is the O’Connor the only Tom Ford cut Bond wears in Spectre?
No. He also wears a Tom Ford Windsor three-piece suit, and a Tom Ford O’Connor small check three-piece, in the film.
